As it relates to his company’s work on Boom, he states that while he thinks they were able to “evolve” the series, he admitted that the commercial and critical failure of the game nearly forced Big Red Button to shut down entirely: Rafei stated that he liked Sonic’s attitude and imaginative design which influenced his own work. Having worked previously for acclaimed studio Naughty Dog, Rafei helped create titles in the Crash Bandicoot series and he stayed with the company up until the release of the first Uncharted game. The gaming industry is no stranger to this phenomenon as we’ve seen former giants like Atari and THQ be dissolved and swept away, among so many others.
Whether it be that corner store you always went to, or even huge juggernauts like Blockbuster, a business closing is just a natural (yet still sad) part of life. It’s not an uncommon sight to see a company go out of business.
